Magic Bronson
"The SUBPAC quickly became a staple of our studio. For producers like us that record in small setups with close neighbors it’s a vital tool that allows us to fully immerse ourselves in our productions and get the feel of using huge subs for playback and tracking live bass while not waking the neighbors."
What role does “feeling” play in the music you make and love?
For us feeling the bass is huge. We have live bass on all our tracks as well as layering in synth and sub bass. Being able to really feel the bass whether it’s while tracking or playing live is so important to really help us get into the mood and vibe of the track.
Has the SUBPAC changed the way you create, produce or mix music?
We both record in small setups with neighbors so being able to work in headphones late night while having the SUBPAC on the chair has been amazing. It feels like you have huge speakers bumping but the person in the room next door can’t hear a thing. Also for live tracking bass it’s been really cool. Getting to feel like you are tracking with a 8×10 rig pumping behind you makes for such better takes and feel.
ABOUT Magic Bronson:
Times are tough, and Magic Bronson is nervous. The Los Angeles-born-and-based duo has spent its six years together soaking up what’s going on in the world, and they’re profoundly uneasy. Their response to most situations is to write a song, which is how the 2017 track Nervous” sprang into life – and if you’re new to Magic Bronson, Nervous” is a good place to start. The itchy lyric – All the things that make you nervous/ Crooked cops and guilty verdicts/ Fires, floods, parking permits” – is countered by an absolute swirling corker of a synthpop melody, and its earworm properties are pretty spectacular. (As New York City taxi drivers can attest – the tune was played on rotation in their cabs during Spring 2017 Fashion Week, after Kendall and Kylie Jenner used it to soundtrack an Instagram ad for their fashion line.)
