Ikonika
"It is now a vital part of my studio setup and I am finally able to feel those frequencies that are so vital to my music. It’s brought the club to my home without the deafening after effects."
Ikonika has taken enormous strides since her classic 2008 single ‘Please’ (Hyperdub). Following the release of her 2010 debut album ‘Contact, Love, Want, Have’ (Hyperdub), Ikonika toured everywhere from Europe to Asia to Australia to North and South America. Her Pitchfork approved 2012 EP ‘I Make Lists’ (Hum + Buzz), explored a more club-focused direction whilst retaining her melodic sensibility. Azealia Banks also used her production on the mixtape track ‘Neptune’. Read More...
In 2013, Ikonika unveiled her second album for Hyperdub, ‘Aerotropolis’. Loosely based on her tour experiences and childhood growing up near London Heathrow airport, the album showcased her first collaboration with a vocalist (Jessy Lanza on ‘Beach Mode’) and introduced a new Latin Freestyle, Electro, R’n’B and Boogie influenced style. It was widely praised including 4/5 in Resident Advisor, 8/10 in NME and 2nd best album of the year in DJ Mag. She rounded the year off with nominations for Best Producer and Best Album at DJ Mag’s Best of British awards, and a remix of ‘Lies’ by Chvrches that was voted 2nd best remix of the year in Dummy.
2014 saw the release of the ‘Position EP’ (Hyperdub), a collection of tough, pummelling club trax influenced by her Night Slugs affiliation, contributions to Hyperdub’s 10th anniversary compilations and a packed touring schedule. She also completed mixes for FACT, Serato, SSENSE, Red Bull, Rinse FM and Triple J.
